The Academy of Leisure Sciences

2024 Research and Teaching Conference

Wednesday, January 31 - Friday, February 2, 2024

Meeting host site: Conference Center on 11 (https://meeton11.com/)
601 Poydras St, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130

Registration.

As an organization we fully recognize the importance for educators and scholars to re-engage in critical discussions, networking, and community-building. A central focus of the conference is to create these opportunities while connecting our teaching, research, and service to some of the more pressing social and environmental issues of our time. Some would say as a leisure field we are reaching a precipice of deciding who we are and how we can influence the world around us: we hope you will join us as we undertake these problems collectively.

Find out how to join us in 2024 below.

Abstract Submission.

Submission of abstracts is now closed.

Conference Details.

Gathering in the heart of New Orleans, this three full-days, in-person conference will provide opportunities to engage with colleagues in leisure, parks, recreation, tourism, and experience design departments across North America and beyond.

Find out about our meeting location below.

Conference Theme.

The theme of this year’s conference is Decentering Leisure– a theme that we hope will help connect the leisure field to broader social and environmental issues.

Keynotes.

Our Bannon Lecture will feature a panel of No Games Representatives from Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles. We will also have a Plenary Session that features two of our most established scholars in the field, Drs. Heather Gibson and Myron Floyd. They will revisit their most successful or significant publications, ideas, works, and/or contributions to the field and share how they should or could be reimagined, specifically in light of the conference theme, decentering leisure.
